Unknown woman pumps diesel and escapes: police are investigating!
An incident that made headlines occurred on Saturday, July 5, 2025, at a motorway gas station near Hildesheim. Here an unknown woman filled up her Toyota with an impressive 47 liters of diesel and simply ignored the fuel bill of over 74 euros. At the checkout she informed the staff that she did not plan to pay. She then immediately drove back to her vehicle and left the gas station unhindered without revealing her identity. This is reported by the Hildesheimer Allgemeine.
The Hildesheim motorway police took the situation seriously and initiated criminal proceedings. The investigation is in full swing. On the positive side, the license plates of the vehicle were not stolen, which provides the police with initial approaches to tracking down the perpetrator. However, there is currently no information about the woman's motivation or further details about the incident, as the police are currently not providing any information on this Press portal.
Current developments in the security situation
Gas stations are a much safer place than they were a few years ago. In Germany, the number of gas station robberies fell to 579 in 2020, a slight decrease from the 587 robberies in 2019. This was confirmed by the Central Association of the Gas Station Industry in an evaluation of police crime statistics. It was initially feared that the introduction of the mask requirement would lead to an increase in robberies, but this was not the case. The risk varied greatly by region; Gas stations in rural areas remain less at risk than in big cities like Berlin, where the risk of being robbed is 20%.
Particularly notable is the decline in fuel fraud, which fell from 70,498 in 2019 to 60,230 in 2020 – a decrease of almost 15%. Among other things, periods of border closures and increased controls in border regions are possible explanations for the fact that fraud in some federal states, such as Saarland, even fell by 35%. This information comes from the statistical perspective of Central Association of the Gas Station Industry.
The police are now asking for information from witnesses or people who can say something about the incident. Residents and travelers who were at the gas station at the time of the crime are asked to call 05121/939-225. The Hildesheim Police Department website also offers contact points for possible information.
