Traffic controls in Hildesheim: THC drivers under suspicion!

In Hildesheim the police were once again active to ensure more safety on the roads. As the Hildesheim press reported, comprehensive traffic controls took place on Monday, October 20th and Wednesday, October 22nd, 2025. The police checked a total of 267 vehicles, including 262 cars and 5 e-scooters, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Schützenallee and from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Berliner Strasse.

A central concern of the inspection was checking the drivers' ability to drive. Fortunately, no alcohol-related influences were found during the controls. However, there were some disturbing findings: three drivers were under the influence of THC and another was on medication. Two road users were also driving without the required driving license and one vehicle was not properly insured. In all of these cases, an investigation will be initiated. The police registered a total of 124 traffic violations, including not carrying necessary documents and ignoring officers' instructions.

About cannabis on the roads

The following are the consequences for violations:

  • 1. Verstoß (THC > 3,5 ng/ml): 500 Euro Bußgeld, 1 Monat Fahrverbot, 2 Punkte
  • 2. Verstoß: 1.000 Euro Bußgeld, 3 Monate Fahrverbot, 2 Punkte
  • 3. Verstoß: 1.500 Euro Bußgeld, 3 Monate Fahrverbot, 2 Punkte

There is an absolute ban on cannabis for novice drivers and those under 21. Driving under the influence of cannabis, especially when driving while impaired, remains a criminal offense that can be punished with fines or imprisonment for up to one year.

Risks and information

Road safety is also a focus ADAC, who repeatedly points out that cannabis should not be viewed as unproblematic when it comes to driving. Consumption can significantly impair concentration, attention and reaction times. The ADAC therefore calls for the population to be intensively informed about the risks associated with cannabis consumption on the road.

Overall, it can be seen that the police checks in Hildesheim not only provide the necessary security, but also provide an important indication of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs - especially cannabis. Radical measures to clarify and enforce the new legal regulations are necessary to further ensure road safety and avoid accidents.
