VfV 06 Hildesheim celebrates a dirty victory and storms to the top of the table!
An exciting duel took place yesterday in the Friedrich-Ebert-Stadion when VfV 06 Hildesheim played against MTV Wolfenbüttel. The home team won 2-1 and secured the lead in the Lower Saxony Oberliga. Over 500 spectators came to experience the spectacle under the brand new floodlights, which were recently inaugurated as part of the Lower Saxony Cup. The game was characterized by intense moments and a rollercoaster of emotions.
VfV started the game strongly, but after just ten minutes they lost a bit of control. In this crucial phase, it was particularly painful for the Hildesheim team that Louis Malina missed a penalty in the 12th minute after Karsan Doski was fouled in the penalty area. A short time later, more precisely in the 17th minute, MTV Wolfenbüttel took the lead with a goal from Hadi Abou-Raya. A shot from Akram-Dine Mohamadou that hit the crossbar just before half-time could have further complicated the situation, but had no consequences for the hosts.
Fighting spirit and return
In the second half, Hildesheim's initial uncertainty was still evident, but a remarkable performance by Mahdi Biso turned the game around. He gave new hope with his equalizer in the 56th minute and made it 2-1 just three minutes later. Mick Gudra was involved in both goals and made a significant contribution to the success. Although Hildesheim now had to prove itself on the defensive, the celebration of the lead was clearly noticeable.
Goalkeeper Lennart Schulze-Kökelsum proved to be a reliable support by being able to fend off numerous shots. The substitutions of injured players Sean Reddemann and Olli Giesing also had a positive effect on the team's training, as head coach Ridhar Kitar noted. But Hildesheim had to fear for victory until injury time, when Wolfenbüttel missed the chance to equalize in the 96th minute. Referee Celina Böhm did not accept a controversial penalty, which heated up tempers on both sides.
Table leadership and outlook
With this win, VfV 06 Hildesheim climbs to first place in the table, now with 24 points from 11 games. After the game, sports director Omar Fahmy expressed his positive opinion about the team's fighting spirit and the important victory against a direct competitor. “It can also be a dirty victory,” he said. The Hildesheimers are showing a clear reaction after two unfortunate defeats against Lüneburg in the cup and Heeslingen.
The next game is already around the corner. VfV has big plans and wants to extend the series, while the U-19 juniors face league leaders JHV Lübeck on Saturday. Ticket sales for the major league game also apply to the U-19 game. We can only hope that the performance curve continues to point towards success and that the Hildesheim fans will continue to be rewarded with exciting games.
