There is no good news for commuters and students in the region around the Elbe ferry “Tanja”. How NDR reports, the ferry is expected to cease operations from Monday, August 17, 2025. The reason for this is the threat of low water levels on the Elbe, which have already caused significant restrictions in the past.
District councilor Rainer Müller has expressed his regret about the current situation, as this primarily affects students and commuters who rely on the ferry. However, replacement buses from bus route 508 are available for this group and have been specially set up for the students who have to go to the Bleckede school center. To avoid misunderstandings, guardians and students should always check the ferry connection before departure.
Impact on ferry operations
The ferry “Tanja” has already had several failures this year due to low water. She was last in a shipyard for repairs in July for several weeks before returning to Neu Darchau. These constant interruptions in operations are not only annoying, but also lead to uncertainty in the daily commute.
However, things are completely different with the “Amt Neuhaus” ferry, which runs between Bleckede and Neu Bleckede. This will continue to operate as usual, which will provide some relief for local residents. At least a connection remains during the navigable restrictions.
