Kathrin Schuol is the new president of the Lüneburg Police Department!

Kathrin Schuol has been the new president of the Lüneburg Police Department since Thursday, July 3, 2025. The ceremonial inauguration took place as part of a handover, at which she was warmly welcomed by Interior Minister Daniela Behrens (SPD), who reported on NDR. Behrens particularly highlighted Schuol's broad experience, decisive approach and expertise. Schuol takes over the scepter from Thomas Ring, who now directs affairs in Braunschweig as police chief.

When it comes to the new challenges, the 56-year-old police officer from Hamburg has an impressive career. She has been working in the police service since 1987 and has, among other things, held the position of deputy head of the State Criminal Police Office in Hamburg. Before heading the Lüneburg Police Department, she was responsible for the “Public Security” department at the Interior and Sports Authority in Hamburg. This extensive experience means that expectations of her leadership style are high, which is also clear in Behrens' first statements.

A new course for the police

A major challenge in police work is the continuous development of leadership skills, particularly with regard to the promotion of women in leadership positions. This is in line with the nationwide leadership development program HORIZONTE, which, according to the Lower Saxony Police Academy, has wanted to increase the proportion of women in top positions since 2016. Upon completion of this program, which lasts 14 months, participants will be trained in strategic thinking and micropolitical skills. The Lower Saxony Minister for the Interior and Sport, Boris Pistorius, had already highlighted the goals of the program in a video message.

Kathrin Schuol, as an experienced leader, could find the best access to these strategies and thus make a valuable contribution to the development of a positive organizational culture. “It is important that we deal with these issues and expand our network,” explained Police Chief Gwendolin von der Osten about the need for exchange between management levels.

Outlook for the future

With Schuol at the helm of the Lüneburg Police Department, many are looking forward to a breath of fresh air and new impulses in the region's police sector. Her predecessors, particularly Thomas Ring, leave big shoes to fill at the top, but with Schuol's experience and her teams, the police department has an exciting future ahead. Citizens can hope for committed police work that puts both safety and community orientation at the center of the work.

Overall, it shows that not only have their costs played a role in the past, but they can also build a bridge between tradition and modern police service. We are excited about the plans and visions that Kathrin Schuol will implement in her new position.
