In Nordhorn, where things have been going strong recently, local authorities have landed a significant blow against a series of gas station robberies. On Tuesday morning, September 17, 2025, the police took action and arrested two suspects, aged 21 and 23. They are suspected of being involved in several serious robberies that took place in Nordhorn this year, particularly in July. As NDR reports, the men are in custody. This is not the first arrest in this matter; Two more suspects, aged 21 and 27, were caught the previous week.
The younger of the two had no luck: he was sent into custody, while an arrest warrant was issued against the older one, but it was not enforced. The two arrests are part of an extensive investigation that has spanned several cities, including Hanover, Bottrop and Nienburg. Evidence was also seized in these cities and is now being examined to see whether it can provide clues to the robberies.
Investigation progress and further arrests
The Grafschaft/Bentheim police station speaks of a “decisive blow” against the robberies. Two suspects, a 27-year-old and a 21-year-old, were caught last Thursday in Hanover and Nienburg. While the 21-year-old is in custody, the arrest warrant against the 27-year-old has been suspended in accordance with the progress of the investigation. However, the police remain on the lookout and continue to search for other possible participants and the background to the crimes, which go back to 2023.
A particularly disturbing aspect of these robberies is that a gas station employee was injured in the head during one of the robberies. Fortunately, there have been no further injuries so far. The NOZ reports that there are no connections between the attacks in Nordhorn and the gas station robbery in Meppen, which also took place in 2023.
