Modern life savers: New swap loader vehicle for Georgsmarienhütte!

There was really something going on in Georgsmarienhütte last night: the Osnabrück district fire department ceremoniously handed over a new swap loader vehicle to the local fire department there. This modern vehicle, a MAN TGS 26.440 with a whopping 440 hp, is not only intended to make everyday operations easier, but also to actively support disaster relief. The handover was accompanied musically by the Georgsmarienhütte brass orchestra, which created a celebratory atmosphere.

When the vehicle was blessed, Pastor Stefan Wagner and Father Libin dedicated their blessing to this important resource. Local fire chief Michael Steffen thanked the Osnabrück district and the district fire department for their trust, while southern section manager Bernard Funke emphasized the day as special and pointed out the advantages of the new swap loader system. “Today is a good day for the fire department and the entire region,” he explained.

Flexibility and cost savings

With the introduction of the swappable loader system, the Osnabrück district is implementing the decisions of its 2040 vehicle concept. This concept aims to adapt the district fire department's vehicle fleet to changing requirements and to ensure its operational capability for the future. The flexibility of a swap-loader vehicle lies primarily in the fact that it can quickly transport various roll-off containers equipped as required. This means easier handling and quicker deployment in an emergency. The section head also emphasized that the vehicle is not only available to the local fire department, but is also used for disaster control.

The investment sum for the new vehicle is around 325,000 euros. This includes the carrier vehicle and the technology that enables the operations team to quickly and efficiently unload containers, bring them on board and use them in different scenarios. The deputy city fire chief Rainer Witt emphasized how optimally this vehicle complements the existing vehicle fleet.

Technical details at a glance

In addition to a lifting capacity of 22 tons, the new swap loader vehicle also has a number of practical functions:

  • Knick- und teleskopierbarer PALFINGER Hakenarm
  • Kamera am Hakenlift für unterstütztes Anfahren des Containers
  • Automatische Folgesteuerung für das Abrollen, Aufnehmen und Kippen der Behälter
  • Steuerung des gesamten Prozesses über einen Joystick im Fahrerhaus

The technology behind swap body vehicles has developed rapidly in recent years. They replace numerous specialized vehicles with a system that relies on a few transport vehicles and a large number of containers (roll-off containers). These vehicles can quickly switch between different operational scenarios and thus bring great efficiency to operations. The standards that have applied to fire brigade WLF since 1980 and the obligation to put roll-off containers on and off within 90 seconds also show how important this technical development is for the fire brigades. Further information can be found at Brand Feuer.

The new vehicle is the first of four swap loader vehicles to be introduced in the region. It will be exciting to see how this technology will improve the operational capability and efficiency of the fire department in Georgsmarienhütte in the long term.

A very positive update in terms of security and disaster prevention for the citizens of the region!
