Morgenland Festival 2025: Intercultural sounds conquer Osnabrück!
In Osnabrück, summer 2025 is all about sounds, cultures and the joy of making music together. The Tomorrowland Festival is more than just a series of concerts; it is a melting pot of cultures that promotes intercultural understanding and breaks down stereotypes through music. Since its founding in 2005, the festival has been committed to making the Middle East accessible to a wider audience through musical experiences.
The festival will open with a bang on June 29, 2025. The highlight will be the NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra conducted by Alan Gilbert. The two internationally acclaimed soloists, Yo-Yo Ma and Kayhan Kalhor, present the new double concert "Venus in the Mirror", commissioned to celebrate the festival's 20th anniversary. The diverse sounds of this project promise to take the audience on a musical journey, like friedensstadt.osnabrueck.de reported.
A colorful program for everyone
The event runs until July 11, 2025 and offers a total of twenty intercultural concerts that present an impressive variety of international artists. Among the performers are greats such as Grammy-winning violinist Johnny Gandelsman and the electro-acoustic trio Dawn of Midi. The interplay between saxophone and oud is also explored by artists Asya Fateyeva and Issam Rafea.
“I am a Damascene and a New Yorker” – this is how Kinan Azmeh, who is dedicated to the festival as artistic director, describes himself. He has put together a diverse program that brings together numerous talents from around the world, including 94-year-old legend François Rabbath and dynamic musicians such as Layale Chaker and Tarek Yamani. In addition, Erdem Helvacioglu will develop a new work with the Osnabrück Youth Choir.
In addition to the concerts, there are also workshops and discussions
The festival is not just limited to the musical performances. A rich supporting program with workshops, artist discussions and participatory formats gives visitors the opportunity to delve deeper into the sound worlds. These offers are seen as part of the initiative, which also promotes cultural diversity and discourse, as was also found in the current study on the importance of music festivals in Germany. The study shows how important such events are for finding identity and the regional economy, which further underlines the relevance of the Morgenland Festival. More information about this is available initiative-musik.de.
Visitors can look forward to a pleasure journey through worlds of sound and cultural homes. The festival is supported by the city of Osnabrück, the Lower Saxony Foundation and the Lower Saxony Sparkasse Foundation, which once again underlines the rich cultural tradition in the region. Tickets are available via the festival website and the Osnabrück Tourist Information.
The Morgenland Festival offers a unique opportunity to cross musical boundaries and experience different cultures in a harmonious interaction - an event that should not be missed!
