Mourning in Hasbergen: Pastor Maria Beisel dies at the age of 59

The Evangelical Christ Church Community in Hasbergen mourns Pastor Maria Beisel, who died on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at the age of 59. Beisel was a defining figure in the community and was valued for her lively, cheerful manner and her understandable, humane theology. She accompanied people, shared hope and lived her faith in a way that many people could understand. “Mary went ahead in faith,” was a loving tribute from the congregation. Many associate her with the hope that she always conveyed. Her husband, Pastor Guido Schwegmann-Beisel, and their three children are the focus of sympathy and compassion during this difficult time.

Maria Beisel has been active in the Christus parish since 2011 and previously served in the parishes of Haselünne and Herzlake for 15 years. Her journey in service to the Church began with her ordination in 1996. She worked for many years in confirmation work in the Osnabrück church district and focused on working with children and young people. Beisel was known for her innovative ideas, such as sailing camps, special nativity plays and inclusive musicals. These creative initiatives not only endeared them to the children in the daycare centers, but also left lasting impressions on the hearts of many community members.

The mourning for Maria Beisel shows how deeply her traces are rooted in the community. Many people experienced her as a committed pastor who always cared about the well-being of others and for whom life after death was an important topic. Her death is not only a loss for her family, but also a painful turning point for the entire community, which remains united in gratitude and trust in life with God.

The Christian view of grief

In times of loss and grief, the Christian faith and biblical tradition are important companions. They offer words, songs and rituals for dealing with grief. The Bible's accounts, such as the prayers of lament in the Psalms or the encouragement to find meaning and hope in grief, help us cope with the painful loss. The personal confrontation with experiences of death and the search for ethical orientation are important aspects in the mourning process, which Pastor Beisel has always supported. As the Evangelical Church in Bremen shows, there are different ways to express grief individually and as a community. Beisel's legacy is kept alive not only by her actions, but also by the spiritual guidance she offered to many people during her service. This form of grief support remains part of her destiny.
