A2 near Peine: Full closure after truck fire will be lifted today!

The traffic situation on the A2 near Peine has eased again since this morning, July 4, 2025. As Autobahn GmbH announced in a press release, the full closure in the direction of Dortmund will be lifted at around 9:30 a.m. This is good news for all road users who have been affected by significant restrictions these days. Although more traffic can now move again, the main lanes and the parallel lane between the Peine-Ost and Peine junctions remain closed for renovation work, which keeps the situation temporarily tense.

The background to the closure was the dramatic events on Wednesday, when a truck loaded with dangerous goods burst into flames. The fire brigade was on site with 120 emergency services as the fire caused extreme temperatures, which also severely damaged the noise barrier. Fortunately, there were no injuries, but the extinguishing work was difficult - the vehicle was transporting, among other things, car parts such as batteries and airbags, which further fueled the fire. Repairs to the state road are expected to last until Saturday morning. Repairing the damage is made more difficult by the fact that asbestos is built into the noise barrier, which further complicates the entire situation. Drivers were even provided with drinks during the traffic jam, which eased everyone's patience a little.

Diversions and dangerous goods regulations

Beyond the current situation, it is evident that the road safety situation in Germany is an ongoing issue that encourages ongoing training in road construction and traffic education. Such incidents clearly show how important preventive measures and a well-founded transport policy are. The statistics not only enable precise accident risk analyses, but also create the basis for future-oriented traffic safety strategies.

In summary, it should be noted that more movement on the A2 will be possible again from this morning, while repairs to the damaged road sections will take a few more days. We wish all road users a safe journey!
