Shock in La Louvière: Serious criminal Becker remains behind bars!
In recent months, a case in La Louvière has caused a stir, drawing public attention to rising crime and its consequences. On December 1, 2025, it became known that Samson Becker, a man with a previous conviction, was involved in several violent offenses, which included both an attempted and a completed act of violence on January 27, 2024. That day, a BMW was stolen, which put the authorities on the trail of a criminal gang that surrounded Becker and his accomplices. This group, specializing in vehicle theft and arson, posed a serious threat, especially during a risky escape in a stolen vehicle, which Becker considered dangerous. According to Lavenir, his behavior during these events was very worrying, which not only led to new accusations, but also opened up old wounds.
The police did not shy away from pursuing Becker's accomplices. On February 1, 2024, another town in the area, Colfontaine, experienced a similar level of violence and theft. A close accomplice of Becker was ultimately sentenced to four years in prison, of which three years must be served on probation. Becker himself was hit with numerous charges, including traffic obstructions. The investigators uncovered an arsenal of weapons ranging from bladed weapons to a hammer. The acts that Becker committed were described by the victims as a “true nightmare”. The fact that such violent crimes took place in several places such as Frameries and Mons shows the scale and insecurity that grips communities.
The legal aspects of theft and violence
A look at the legal framework makes it clear how seriously such an offense is taken. According to Leger Avocat, theft is defined in French law as the “fraudulent deprivation of someone else’s property.” To qualify theft, both the material and intentional elements must be present. The possible penalties are harsh: Simple thefts can result in up to three years in prison and high fines, while in more serious circumstances, as in Becker's case, the penalties can increase significantly. The fact that Becker is not only burdened by the thefts, but also by the use of violence and escapes, increases his legal problems.
Meanwhile, violent crime and its perception in society are an important issue. Because as Statista shows, violent crimes have a significant impact on the feeling of security. In 2024, over 217,000 violent crimes were registered in Germany - the highest number since 2007. This results in a worrying trend: violent crimes account for less than 4% of all crimes, but the impact on the general public is enormous. Society is faced with rising numbers, leading to a persistent feeling of uncertainty.
In Becker's case, it remains to be seen how the court will decide. He was acquitted of six charges, but the exact details are not publicly known. His further legal steps and what this means for him and those around him will be watched with interest from now on.
