Hobby astronomer from Salzgitter captures comet Lemmon” in the picture!
These days, comet “Lemmon” is lighting up the night sky and causing great excitement among stargazers. The celestial spectacle is particularly visible in clear weather, especially on the western horizon shortly after sunset. How News38 reports, the amateur astronomer Sebastian Thiele from Salzgitter went in search of the shimmering comet.
The effort was worth it! After Thiele waited five to seven days for the right weather conditions, the sky finally cleared. On Friday, October 24th, the time had come: When the weather cleared up, Thiele grabbed his telescope and camera and set off to a field. Despite an oncoming cloud front, he was undeterred and brought his equipment into action.
Astrophotography as a passion
Within a few minutes he took seven images of the comet, each with an exposure time of 30 seconds. Thiele is not just a casual observer, but has a real passion for astrophotography. It is important to him to capture fascinating images of constellations, nebulae and even comets. For his photos he uses a Skywatcher GTI tracking device and a Skywatcher Evostar ED-72 telescope in combination with a modified Canon EOS-550D. To optimize the final results, he edits his recordings with special astro software.
Sighting Lemmon is a limited-time treat, so be quick to catch the glowing green wonder before it disappears from the sky.
A look into other worlds
So let's enjoy the beauties of the sky and the little wonders of the earth. A clear sky and a few minutes of patience can transport us to another dimension, where the stars and comets shape our view of the universe.
The fascination with comets like “Lemmon” remains unbroken, and perhaps Thiele’s commitment will inspire others to dare to look up and experience the wonders of the night sky for themselves. This is a real adventure that certainly requires a good hand!
