VSG Ammerland wins 3:1 - coach dissatisfied with game performance!
The sport of volleyball in northern Germany enjoys great interest and recently caused a stir with the exciting duel between VSG Ammerland and MTV Salzgitter. On November 2nd, 2025, VSG Ammerland won 3-1 in a thrilling game. The individual sets ended 16:25, 25:20, 25:21 and 25:21, which kept the spectators captivated until the last minute. With this fourth win in the fifth game of the season, VSG climbed to an excellent second place in the regional league.
Despite the pleasing result, coach Torsten Busch expressed dissatisfaction with his team's performance. Especially in the first set, the team had difficulties in receiving and attacking, which ultimately led to a clear defeat in this section. “We didn’t show the lightness and determination that we needed,” said Busch. Although he tried to improve the situation by changing players, there was no immediate success.
A strong comeback
In the decisive fourth set, Torge Damke played a key role, was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) and contributed crucial points. The game ended with another service error by the guests, and VSG was able to celebrate the important victory. In the coming weeks, the VSG will be put to the test at TK Hannover and USC II in Braunschweig, where we will see how the team can develop further.
Volleyball in focus
Since its beginnings in the United States, volleyball has become a global phenomenon. The International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) was founded in 1947 and is based in Lausanne, Switzerland. Sales in the volleyball sector are impressive: in 2021, FIVB sales were almost 25 million euros, even if the COVID-19 pandemic brought with it some challenges. In 2022 alone, volleyball equipment sales totaled over $93 million.
In the USA alone, almost 6.1 million people took part in indoor volleyball in 2022, with this sport being particularly popular among young people. A notable moment in volleyball history was the record attendance of over 92,000 spectators for a college volleyball game in August 2023, where the University of Nebraska faced Omaha.
Volleyball is not just a sport, but an important social event that connects generations. With indoor volleyball since 1964 and beach volleyball since 1992, the Olympic Games have created platforms to celebrate this sport worldwide. We in Northern Germany appreciate the successes in sport and support the local teams who continue to work hard for their successes.
It's an exciting time for VSG Ammerland, and after a solid start to the season, it is to be hoped that the team's performance can be further stabilized in order to overcome the next challenges. For all volleyball fans, it's time to keep your fingers crossed!
