Ceiling collapses in Uelzen school – blessing in disguise!
An unpleasant incident occurred in the BBS I metal training workshop in Uelzen during the autumn holidays: plasterboard fell down, although fortunately no students or teachers were present in the building at any time. This message was sent by the AZ Online confirmed. A teacher discovered the damaged ceiling while preparing in the classroom area.
The fallen plasterboard was an impressive size of around two square meters. The affected ceiling structure dates from 1968, while the building's roof structure remained undamaged. Damage of around 80 square meters has now been discovered on the ceiling structure, which urgently needs to be replaced.
Repair measures and effects on teaching
The Uelzen district reacted immediately and commissioned specialist companies to dispose of the fallen panels and remove other parts. The headmaster of BBS I, Stefan Nowatschin, informed the public about the necessary repairs and the expected progress. Teaching operations are expected to remain restricted until the end of November, which will lead to an interruption of specialist practical lessons.
In the week after the incident, it became clear that classes in the metal workshop could not take place. The originally planned career orientation project “Experience Craftsmanship” now has to be rescheduled and will partly be carried out in theory learning rooms. This shows that practical experience in training cannot be easily replaced.
The BBS I in Uelzen, as shown on the BBS website explains, attaches great importance to practical training. This involuntary interruption illustrates how important the infrastructure is for the teaching content. Looking ahead, it is to be hoped that lessons can be resumed in full soon and that students will not have to miss out on their practical skills for too long.
In the coming weeks, the school management will continue to monitor developments and inform you of any changes. Although the situation is challenging, the committed handling of the incident shows that the school is well positioned to respond to such unexpected events.
