Volunteers wanted: Green ladies and gentlemen for Uelzen!

In Uelzen, something is happening in the care areas of the hospitals. The Helios Clinic has launched the initiative to establish a group of volunteers known as the Green Ladies and Gentlemen (GDuH). The aim of these dedicated helpers is to promote the well-being of patients and make their stay in the hospital more pleasant. The Green ladies and gentlemen do not take on any nursing activities, but rather offer valuable social support. How Helios health reported, interested women and men of all age groups should be addressed with empathy and positive charisma.

The GDuH group is not only established at the Uelzen Clinic, but is part of the nationwide network of the Evangelische Kranken- und Altenhilfe e.V. (eKH), which brings together around 7,000 members in over 500 groups. The training of volunteers, which is supported by the eKH, is particularly important. The commercial site manager Hannes Winterhoff and the deputy nursing director Benita Giesa are committed to ensuring that the broadest possible range of support for patients is created in Uelzen.

Loud eKH Germany There will be a federal conference on 12/13. October 2026 in Wuppertal, the aim is to better prepare volunteers for the sensitive needs of patients.

An example from Dresden

A look across national borders shows that the Green Ladies and Gentlemen are also active in other institutions. The Carl Gustav Carus University Hospital in Dresden is planning to expand the service provided by volunteers. The board of the university hospital, Prof. Michael Albrecht, emphasizes the great importance of commitment, especially in times of crisis such as the corona pandemic. This makes the need for support in the patient environment all the more necessary, which also exists in Uelzen.

In Dresden, for example, the Green Ladies and Gentlemen have been an important contact point for single patients who work in children's clinics and acute geriatrics since 1997. The need is growing and there are plans to expand the group to a total of 20 volunteers. This clearly shows that the work of the Green Ladies and Gentlemen makes an indispensable contribution to the recovery and well-being of patients not only in Uelzen, but throughout Germany.
