Esterholzer Straße in Uelzen is one-way street from today – important information!
The traffic situation in Uelzen will experience a noticeable change from October 24, 2025. The section of Esterholzer Straße between Kantweg and the B71 becomes a one-way street that leads out of town. This measure is necessary to enable the canal work in Kantweg, which is expected to last until April 2026. The dead-end regulation that previously applied will thus become obsolete. The city administration has reacted and recommended alternative access routes to the city center via Groß Liederner Straße or Hambrocker Straße in order to create diversions for road users. According to az-online.de, the Esterholzer Straße bus stop will be served again from Monday, October 27th, but the stop will still no longer be available for passengers heading towards the city center.
The changed traffic routing brings additional challenges. It is important to know that the one-way street area is not open to bicycle traffic in the opposite direction. However, cyclists have the option of using the sidewalk, which remains accessible to them. This regulation is intended to help prevent accidents and ensure the safety of cyclists.
Other construction sites in the area
The construction site situation in and around Uelzen is tense. The B71 is closed both in the direction of Könnern/Salzwedel and in the direction of Bremerhaven/Soltau. These closures affect the area between Uelzen/Celler Straße and Uelzen/bypass road. The state road L232 is also currently not passable in both directions between Bad Bevensen and Altenmedingen due to construction sites. There is also a change in traffic routing on the B209 in the construction area between Embsen and Häcklingen/Universität, as [viaMichelin.de](https://www.viamichelin.de/karten-stadtplan/verkehr/bundes Republik_deutschland/niedersachsen/uelzen) reports.
The traffic situation in Lower Saxony as a whole is characterized by numerous construction sites. For example, work on the K26 between Braunschweig and Christian-Pommer-Straße is scheduled until October 24, 2025. Other construction sites affect important traffic arteries such as the A33 in the Osnabrück area and the L289. Passengers and vehicle drivers should therefore prepare for restrictions and possible delays, no matter which route they choose. All current construction sites can be viewed on verkehrslage.de.
It is therefore important for Uelzen to stay informed about the upcoming changes. The city administration is trying to make traffic as smooth as possible and asks citizens to understand the construction work.
