Rainer Schimmel shows Uelzen's story: photo lecture in the library!
On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, the Uelzen City Library invites you to a very special evening. The local speaker Rainer Schimmel will give a lecture at 7 p.m. that will take a look at the Hanseatic city's recent past. This event is all about the fascinating changes that Uelzen experienced between 1982 and 1985, before major urban redevelopment began.
Rainer Schimmel, a former bookseller with great commitment to his hometown, presents a selection of images that impressively document the city's development. The collection on offer includes impressive color photos from the times before the city's renovation as well as current photos that show the changes and renewal process in Uelzen. A real treat for anyone interested in the history of their city!
High demand and free participation
Interest in Schimmel's lectures has increased enormously, which also triggered this event. Due to high demand, places are limited, which is why registration is required. Anyone interested in the event can register by phone on 0581 800 6500 or by email at stadtbuecherei@stadt.uelzen.de. Entry is free, so it's an opportunity not to be missed!
The city library not only has an exciting program, but also creates a space for community and exchange. Events like these promote collective learning about the rich history of Uelzen and strengthen social interaction in the city.
For anyone interested in history, this is the perfect opportunity to learn something about Uelzen's past and discover the impressive images that Rainer Schimmel put together for us. So let’s go to the city library on October 28th!
