Uelzen supports new group practice: 50,000 euros for Himbergen!

Oh, what a beautiful day: there is reason to be happy in Himbergen! On November 7, 2025, Uelzen's district administrator Dr. Heiko Blume gave a symbolic check for 50,000 euros to Dr. med. Mark Tillmann in support of the new “Himbergen joint practice”. This financial support is no small feat, after all, the costs of opening a new doctor's office are high - and that is more than necessary in rural areas like the Uelzen district, where medical care is often at risk.

Dr. Tillmann is one of three doctors who worked together at the former practice of the Bad Bevensen family medical center. The group practice will now offer medical treatments on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. A step that is intended not only to increase medical care, but also to significantly improve the healthcare offering for the local population.

Investing in the future of medical care

The aim of the funding from the district is to bring the practice up to the most modern standards. Purchases of ECG devices, ergometry and pulmonary function diagnostics are planned. Not only will the local population benefit, the volunteer fire department in Himbergen will also have access to specific studies. These innovations are urgently needed because there is often a lack of access to specialized health services in rural regions.

It is also important to doctors to train prospective general practitioners and to offer their practice staff further training opportunities. This is the right way to not only offer up-to-date medical services, but also to promote and retain young talent in the region. The initiative fits well into the picture, because medical and nursing care is, as is well known, a central component of public services, especially in rural areas where there is often a lack of appropriate facilities (bpb.de).

A long road to optimal healthcare

The balancing act between cost efficiency and the need for reliable medical care is an ongoing issue in rural regions. People here often have to travel long distances to see a doctor. According to recent reports, there are significantly fewer doctors per capita in rural areas, further complicating the situation. So it's no wonder that innovative approaches to improving care are in demand. Solutions such as collaborations between general practitioners and specialists or telemedical offers could help to overcome the challenges (bpb.de).

The Uelzen district launched the “ÄrNa” program in 2024 to attract young doctors and non-medical professionals. The possibility of applying for financial help for practice takeovers or new establishments is a further step in the right direction. Anyone who is interested in this funding program can submit applications to the district's health region - more information can be found on the Uelzen district website (uelzener-presse.de).

The new practice in Himbergen will not only make a contribution to improving health care in the region, but will also set an example that the challenges facing rural doctors are needed. Something is being created here that will be good for the community - and that is truly a reason for joy!
