Traffic chaos in Uelzen: Metal concert and Open R festival close roads!

In the coming days, Uelzen will be all about music and celebrations. On June 21st, the city awaits a rousing metal concert that will heat up people's minds. But that's not all! The renowned Open R Festival will take place from June 27th to 29th, promising a varied program to numerous visitors. But as the Uelzen press reports, traffic is noticeably restricted by these events.

Albrecht-Thaer-Straße will be closed for the duration of the events. More specifically, this applies from Friday June 20th to Monday June 23rd and again from Thursday June 26th to Tuesday July 1st. On the days of the concert and festival, only concert goers are allowed to drive down the street from Bohldamm to park their vehicles in the parking lot at Albrecht-Thaer-Platz. However, this car park is closed outside of this time, which visitors should take into account. According to the latest information from the Uelzener Nachrichten, parking at the Stadthalle, Am Schützenplatz, is becoming an alternative for commuting train users.

Details about the road closures

Wullhop Street will be closed simultaneously from June 20th to 23rd and again from June 26th to July 1st. The residential streets around the Albrecht Thaer site are also affected: In the periods from June 21st to 23rd and from June 27th to 30th, residents have to prepare for closures on Esschemannstrasse, Wollsteiner Strasse, Elbinger Strasse, Marienburger Strasse, Stargarder Strasse and Eichendorffstrasse. Only residents are allowed to drive on these streets except for Esschemannstrasse during the periods mentioned.

According to the city of Uelzen, there will be some adjustments to the transport system. From June 30th to July 4th, Albrecht-Thaer-Straße will become a one-way street from the An den Zehn Eichen roundabout in the direction of Sternstraße. In addition, the speed limit of 30 km/h will apply in this area from June 28th. However, train commuters will be prevented from using their parking space on Albrecht-Thaer-Straße from June 30th to July 2nd. An alternative parking space on the site of the town hall is provided.

Directions and parking options

Arriving by car is different for festival visitors, depending on the direction in which they arrive. The federal highway 4 and the B191 offer direct access from different directions. The walk from Hundertwasser Station to the Almased Arena is about five minutes. There are also some interesting parking options in and near the city center, which are listed in the following table:
