Traffic revolution in Uelzen: Speed limit 30 and new paths for cyclists!

Something is happening in terms of traffic in Uelzen! Today, June 23, 2025, the city began marking work to improve traffic routing on Bahnhofstrasse and St.-Viti-Strasse. According to the Uelzen press There will soon be new signs and markings that are intended to make interaction between road users safer and clearer.

A particularly important point is that in the future there will no longer be space for bicycle traffic on the sidewalks of Bahnhofstrasse - instead, cyclists will have to move onto the street. This also means an important speed reduction: the speed limit of 30 km/h will apply on both streets in the future. New pedestrian crossings will also be installed to make it easier to cross the road.

Traffic management in the Luisenviertel

If you look a little further, a new traffic route is also being implemented in the Luisenviertel between Bohldamm and Dieterichsstrasse. From March 2024, new rules will also apply there - the streets Karlstrasse and Luisenstrasse will become one-way streets in the direction of Dieterichsstrasse. This measure, based on recommendations from the Uelzen Accident Commission, aims to calm traffic and increase safety, especially at the intersection of Karlstrasse/Bohldamm/Von-Estorff-Strasse, according to information from Hanseatic city of Uelzen.

The new speed regulations also enforce a speed of 30 km/h there. Cyclists even have the option of using the one-way streets in both directions, which is a positive development for environmentally friendly means of transport. The changes will come into force from May 24, 2024, and as soon as the work is completed, the new traffic signs and markings will be installed gradually, as Uelzen news reported.

One goal: security and fluidity

The overall goal of the entire initiative is to improve visibility for all road users and ensure a smooth traffic flow. Whether in Bahnhofstrasse or in the Luisenviertel, the new measures should not only benefit drivers, but also pedestrians and cyclists. Successful traffic management makes a decisive contribution to safety and well-being in the city - there's something to be said for it, Uelzen!
