Anniversary lecture series: University of Vechta and the power of change!
The University of Vechta is celebrating several important milestones this year: 30 years of independence, 20 years of merger with the Catholic University of Applied Sciences Northern Germany and 15 years as a university itself. Reason enough to honor this eventful history in a very special series of events. The lecture series “Knowledge enables change – region and university in times of great upheaval” starts on November 4, 2025. Various aspects of change and their effects on knowledge are discussed. This anniversary event is not only a look back, but also an outlook on the development of the institution and its role in society. According to mynewsdesk the opening lecture will be given by Prof. Dr. Jochen Bär, who deals with the topics of “change, knowledge and linguistic upheavals”.
The lecture will take place at 6 p.m. in the university's music hall. It promises to be an exciting evening in which students, lecturers and interested parties can deal with the acquisition of historical knowledge and its significance for contemporary society. The focus is on language as a dynamic element in socio-communicative interaction. Lectures on transformations in various areas, such as teacher training and companies, will follow in the weeks after the opening event.
Diversity of languages in focus
Another aspect that is becoming increasingly relevant these days is multilingualism. This is also being discussed extensively at the University of Vechta. The course on pragmalinguistics and multilingualism revealed that multilingualism is a complex topic that needs to be addressed in many scientific disciplines. The latest research results show that multilingualism has a lasting impact on society, education, politics and the economy. This requires a deeper insight into the complexity and social structure of multilingualism. These topics are addressed in seminars that deal with the dimensions of multilingualism and reflect on attitudes towards language and languages. As can be read at uni-vechta.de, historical multilingual relationships and different language discourses are also discussed.
In addition, a selection of literature is recommended, including by renowned authors such as Brizić and Busch, to further stimulate discussions. The seminars will take place in the winter semester of 2022/23 and therefore offer an excellent opportunity to deal with the topic in more detail.
A look forward
The anniversary lecture series and the intensification of discussions about multilingualism at the University of Vechta show that there is a clear focus on further training and development, both for the students and for the entire region. With this in mind, the university invites everyone interested to take part in the events and to engage with the exciting topics of linguistic and social transformation.
