Legal drama surrounding Daniela Klette: letters and explosive summonses!

Daniela Klette, a prominent inmate at the women's correctional facility in Vechta, continues to make headlines. On July 2, 2025, their situation will be omnipresent in the media landscape after an article in “nd” in May led to a serious incident. The article, titled “A stolen letter,” discussed how a letter addressed to Klette was not handed over because it did not contain “individual communication.” Klette then responded with a handwritten letter that was written on May 31, 2025 and received by the author on June 18, 2025. In it, she told of other attempted mailings that were also disallowed, including articles about street dogs in Istanbul and Athens and about rats that can detect landmines.

From this perspective, information from Tagesschau points to Klette's turbulent past, which brings her into serious entanglements with the Red Army Faction (RAF). Klette is not only accused of being involved in serious robberies, but also in RAF attacks. This group, which has committed many acts of terrorism in recent decades, carried out its last major act of violence before its dissolution in 1998 with an explosive attack on the Weiterstadt prison in 1993. This attack testified to the extreme danger of the RAF and to this day leaves questions about the people involved, among whom Klette is also suspected.

Investigations against burdock

The Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) has dealt intensively with Burdock and is sending out summonses for questioning. Interestingly, the author of the article in question, who pointed out the problem of handing over the letter, received a summons for questioning on June 20, 2025. This happened as part of an investigation into murder, which was later directed specifically against Klette. The Federal Prosecutor's Office appears to be having great difficulty in advancing the investigation against her. There were also reports about Klette, who despite her imprisonment maintained text message contact with a suspected accomplice and recently sent greetings at a birthday party.

Visits to Klette by former RAF members and other activists were rejected by the BKA for security reasons. There is great concern that these visits could be used as a pretext to make new escape plans or to establish contact with fugitive accomplices. In the past, Klette, who is part of the so-called “third generation” of the RAF, had already come into the focus of investigators for attempted murder and serious robberies.

With an open end to the investigation and the complexity of her past, it remains to be seen how the situation surrounding Daniela Klette will develop. As the history of the RAF itself shows, the past often has its own dynamics and stretches over years.
