Insights into the harbor: Open day in Wilhelmshaven thrilled!
On June 14, 2025, Niedersachsen Ports invited people to an exciting open day in Wilhelmshaven. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., visitors had the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the port and get to know the diverse activities of the port company better. Marc Niedermeyer, Department Manager of the Port Office, hosted the event and introduced the various departments and services offered at the Pacific 1 office.
The event was a complete success and the response was extremely positive. Visitors were able to find out about the work of the port railway, property management, technology and technical service as well as human resources and the drawing office. In addition, NPorts' largest customers, including renowned logistics service providers, energy companies and shipyards, presented their services at information stands.
Interactive experiences for young and old
A highlight of the day was the ship simulator, which was supervised by Jens Malina, an employee of the hazardous goods department. Here, interested visitors were able to take the helm themselves and get a feel for the complex navigation of the ship. The little guests didn't miss out either - numerous activities such as learning to tie knots with Udo, painting activities, face painting and a bouncy castle provided the best entertainment.
The gondola ride on a 49 meter high crane from Turbo Technik was particularly impressive. Rhenus Midgard also provided heavy equipment so that children could sit in a coal excavator. The day was not only educational, but also an experience for the whole family.
Diverse offers and security in the port
Visitors also had the opportunity to take a look at various machines, including robotic lawnmowers and the “Havenkieker”. Although security measures at the port restricted access to certain areas, the event still provided a comprehensive insight into port activities. Mathias Lüdicke, head of the Wilhelmshaven branch, emphasized the central role of NPorts in the development of the port and the importance of dialogue with the public.
The event was not only very well received, but also demonstrated the important role that the port infrastructure plays for the region. In connection with the developments of other ports, for example in Bremen, where bremenports actively generates new cargo flows and increases the reputation of Bremen's ports worldwide, it is clear that the Wilhelmshaven location is strategically important and well connected.
Interested visitors not only had the opportunity to participate free of charge, but also had sufficient parking space near the event site. This added to the positive experience of the day, which not only provided insight but also strengthened a sense of community in the area.
Overall, the open day in Wilhelmshaven proved to be an impressive event that opened the doors to one of the central economic hubs in northern Germany and made the colorful diversity of port activities tangible. Further information and impressions can be found on the website NWZonline and NPorts as well as bremenports available.
