Mölkky fun in Wilhelmshaven: Finnish game of skill on Sunday!

On Sunday, July 27th, the Ruscherei in Wilhelmshaven will be the venue for an exciting Mölkky event. The German-Finnish Society Wilhelmshaven invites all game enthusiasts to familiarize themselves with the art of throwing, which requires above all skill, concentration and team spirit from 5 p.m.

For those who are not yet familiar with Mölkky: It is a Finnish throwing game in which you throw a throwing stick at 12 numbered cones in order to achieve a game score. Volker Pirsich, the chairman of the Wilhelmshaven district group, initiated the event and has been planning the program for eight years. Pirsich had his first contact with Finland during a choir trip in the 1970s, which led him to study Finnish.

A game with history

Did you know that Mölkky has its roots in Karelia and is a variation of the game Kyykkä? The name means “bottom, child’s bottom” in Karelian and the name Mölkky was invented by the creators. The game requires not only precision but also strategic thinking and has spread rapidly since its revival in the 90s. Today it is played worldwide and Mölkky competitions are even very popular in Germany.

The International Mölkky Organization has associations in various countries, including Nepal. The game is becoming increasingly popular in Germany, and competitions take place regularly, such as the German Mölkky Championship, which was launched in 2008. These open championships attract more participants every year.

An event for the whole family

Participation in the Mölkky event in the Ruscherei is free, but a donation is requested to cover the costs. If you have a good hand, you should team up with at least five friends, as six to twelve people are ideal for an entertaining game. Food is also provided: drinks can be purchased on the Ruscherei premises. The DFG is also planning further events such as a concert by the Finnish tango-jazz trio Sole Azul and participation in the Migratory Bird Days with numerous activities.

Mölkky has turned out to be the perfect pastime, and the best part is that it is suitable for both big and small players. Whether in the park with friends or as part of a competition - Mölkky ensures lots of fun and enjoyment.

With this in mind: If you're up for an exciting challenge and want to experience Finnish gaming culture up close, you should mark July 27th. Mölkky, a game with a fun factor that cannot be replaced!
