Murzarella delights Wilhelmshaven with belly singing and new characters!
The audience experienced a colorful spectacle of cabaret in the Pumpwerk in Wilhelmshaven when the talented Sabine Murza, better known as “Murzarella”, performed her new program “Bauchgesänge – off to the second round”. The 2024 Gurnard Prize winner, known for her extraordinary style of ventriloquism and belly singing, really lit up the stage. [NWZOnline].
A highlight of the show was the charismatic Kaka-Dudu, who sang “Fiesta Mexicana” in a belly song and also impressed as a jazz singer. Other actors included Fräulein Adelheid, who impressed as a wannabe opera diva with a famous aria from “Carmen,” and sewer rat Kalle, who performed heavy metal with “Sexbomb” and “Hells Bells.” In a heartwarming performance, Murzarella and Kalle even sang a romantic duet: “Come with me on my channel.” All of this in an atmosphere that invited laughter and amazement.
Colorful characters and musical diversity
The audience had even more to look forward to. A new character, the vegan Leonie von Löwensenf, introduced herself and brings a refreshing note to the show with “The Lion sleeps tonight”. Miss Adelheid appeared several times - even as an astronaut who sang “Starry Sky”. Things got really emotional in the great finale: “Time to say Goodbye” brought the entire audience to a standing ovation, before Kalle closed the show with “Highway to Hell” by AC/DC.
The well-attended event was part of the 31st Festival of Cabaret, where the diversity of the performances was clear. Murzarella skillfully fuses the techniques of ventriloquism with singing and breathes life into her puppets. As viewers quickly noticed, they are also striving for their own solo careers. The puppets represent different styles of music, which makes for a varied experience. The sewer rat sang heavy metal, the cockatoo raved about hits and the lady in her prime shone with opera arias. Pumpwerk highlights that all performances were sung live, which made the performance all the more captivating.
Awards and other events
For her impressive achievement, Murzarella received the Wilhelmshaven Cabaret Prize “Gurnard” in 2024, which is awarded annually at the Pumpwerk Cultural Center and is endowed with 2,500 euros and a bronze sculpture. Past winners include greats like Gardi Hutter and Volker Pispers. Murzarella shows once again that she has a good hand as both a ventriloquist and a belly opera singer.
The Pumpwerk also has a lot to offer in the future: In addition to Murzarella, there are other events on the program, including the performances by Laura Braun and Andreas Langsch on May 7th, 2026 and Ron Williams on December 29th, 2025. The next cabaret festival is planned for September 24th, 2026, for which preparations are already in full swing.
