A39 night closure: construction chaos between Braunschweig and Wolfsburg!
Closures and construction work on the A39 in Wolfsburg: nights from December 9th to 11th, 2025, diversions for road users.

A39 night closure: construction chaos between Braunschweig and Wolfsburg!
The third construction phase will begin on the A39 in the area of the Wolfsburg Mörse-Süd exit from Tuesday, December 9th. As the federal Autobahn GmbH reports, the construction work is necessary to renew and improve the overhead signage between the Flechtorf and Wolfsburg Mörse-Süd junctions. The closures are part of a larger project intended to increase safety and traffic management on this busy route.
On the nights of December 9th to 11th, the A39 in the direction of Wolfsburg/Salzwedel will be closed from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Road users are guided by a designated diversion from the Flechtorf junction via the U53 (L295 and L294) to the Wolfsburg Mörse-Süd junction. This measure is also necessary to install the new overhead signage with two cantilever arms and a sign bridge, as Autobahn GmbH reports.
Construction work and further closures
In addition to the night-time closures, there will be a temporary closure of the Flechtorf junction in the direction of Wolfsburg on Wednesday, December 10th. From 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., entrances and exits are closed in order to carry out repair work following accident damage.
The past has shown that construction sites on German motorways are often accompanied by long traffic jams. In order to route traffic on the A39 as best as possible, a two-lane traffic route will be set up at the construction site during the closures, so that diversions are only necessary at certain times.
Investments in transport infrastructure
This construction work is part of a comprehensive plan in which the federal government is investing a total of 3.6 billion euros in the expansion of motorways. The focus is not only on the A39, but also affects many other road projects throughout Germany that are aimed at closing gaps and bypassing towns. A total of 16 federal highways and 7 new motorway construction projects are being worked on in 12 federal states, which is of great importance for traffic safety and relieving congestion in residential areas, as an analysis by ZDF shows.
In Lower Saxony, where the A39 is located, investments are being made in various projects to improve traffic conditions and ensure user safety. This is not only highly relevant for commuters, but also has a positive effect on local residents.
Those responsible ask all road users to be patient during the construction work and recommend using alternative routes to avoid delays.
