Demolition of the old my Real”: Is the new E-Center coming to Nordsteimke?
The demolition work on the former “mein Real” in Nordsteimke is in full swing. On July 18, 2025, the dust will lift as the demolition company from Hamelin removes the last remains of the badly damaged building. The old market, which closed its doors in March 2024, has now left only a shadow of its former self - a ruin urgently waiting to make way for a new use. Edeka Minden-Hannover is now the new owner of the site and is planning to build a modern e-center here. WAZ reports that demolition work began around three weeks ago, with two large excavators currently standing by inside the ruins.
In the summer heat, many parking spaces in front of the former shopping center are only usable to a limited extent because the work is hindering access. However, around 40 parking spaces at the former main entrance are well filled. Drivers have to be prepared for the fact that the parking lot hardly offers any better alternatives for the time being. Countless white bags of mineral wool, the old building's insulating material, are also on site and bear witness to the extensive gutting work that was carried out in May 2023. These measures preceded the official building permit for the new building.
New building in sight
The good news for everyone expecting the new Edeka at this location is that the building permit has already been issued. The contract negotiations for the various trades are also ongoing. Edeka wants to ensure that the new store meets the needs of customers and is equipped up to date. The customer initiative is optimistic and is waiting for the opening of the new e-center after similar construction projects are being planned in neighboring Donaueschingen. A new e-center is also to be built there at the site of the old Real building, which was closed at the end of March 2025 Black Forest messenger.
Parallel to all the changes in Nordsteimke, there are also innovations in Berlin-Steglitz. Edeka is planning to demolish an old market on Schloßstrasse to make room for a modern new building. The new building will not only contain an Edeka market on the ground floor, but possibly also apartments above. District councilor Patrick Steinhoff confirms that initial discussions have already taken place with the city planning office, but a specific building application is still pending Development city.
The changes in Nordsteimke and other places are part of a larger trend in which the old glory of supermarkets is being replaced by a modern shopping landscape that is intended to meet the needs of today's customers. While the construction site noise is just around the corner in Nordsteimke, everyone is looking forward to the result when the new Edeka opens its doors.
The demolition work is not only a visible sign of change, but also of hope and new possibilities. Residents are invited to look critically but also positively at the development. It remains to be seen when the first shelves in the new E-Center will be filled.
