Bornauw moves from Wolfsburg to Leeds: new contract in sight!

As of today, July 1, 2025, there is significant news from the world of football: Belgian international and central defender Sebastiaan Bornauw is about to move from Wolfsburg to Leeds United. How OneFootball reports, Bornauw has already successfully completed the medical check in Thorp Arch. The official announcement of the transfer is seen as a formality as the two clubs have agreed on a transfer fee of six million euros.

Bornauw, who has been playing for VfL Wolfsburg since 2021, brings great experience to Leeds. In the last three years he played a total of 76 competitive games in which he scored two goals. With 140 Bundesliga appearances and experience from the Champions League, he will be a valuable reinforcement for the English team. His defensive strengths could also respond to the impending departure of Max Wöber, who is considering a permanent departure due to serious injuries.

The Road to Leeds

The 26-year-old will be given a four-year contract, giving him the chance to prove himself in the Premier League and actively work towards Leeds' potential resurgence. One of his new teammates is Lukas Nmecha, who, like Bornauw, moved from Wolfsburg to Leeds. Alongside Nmecha, Jaka Bijol will be another new signing to add a breath of fresh air to the defense after Leeds already splashed out £15m on Udinese defender Bijol.

– Leeds’ new signings this transfer window:

  • Lukas Nmecha (frei von Wolfsburg)
  • Jaka Bijol (15 Millionen Pfund von Udinese)
  • Sebastiaan Bornauw (6 Millionen Euro von Wolfsburg)

Bornauw hasn't been a consistent presence in Wolfsburg's starting eleven recently, as he only played 16 games last season. Injuries and illnesses were partly responsible for him missing 18 matches. The New York Times reiterates that the move represents an important step in Bornauw's career.

Financial impact

With the transfer, Wolfsburg could gain financial leeway for further player purchases in the summer market. Bornauw, who was recently not primarily selected for the club, is making room in the squad and may enable new transfers. This move opens up new strategic leeway for the club, while Bornauw takes the opportunity to demonstrate his skills at Leeds.

With this new addition, Leeds and Bornauw show that they are ready for new challenges. The Premier League has some exciting fixtures in store and fans can look forward to seeing what this summer transfer brings for both sides.
