New comfort on a factory tour: VW presents innovative visitor trailers!
Since 1948, the Volkswagen factory in Wolfsburg has attracted visitors from all over the world who want to experience the fascination of car manufacturing up close. Over eight million people have already made their way to view the impressive production. On October 29, 2025, up to 1,000 guests will be out and about every day to enjoy the factory tours, which are not only informative but also offer a lot of comfort.
The new visitor trailers for the factory tours were presented on October 9, 2023. These modern vehicles guarantee an even better experience because they offer more comfort, safety and accessibility. The route stretches for around seven kilometers and leads through the Volkswagen's central production areas. The route is flexibly adapted depending on guest wishes and production processes.
The new vehicles in detail
The new visitor vehicles consist of two trailers with a total of 30 seats. They are pulled by a fully electric ID.3, which is not only environmentally friendly but also future-oriented. The total train length is an impressive 18 meters and the weight per team is around six tons. Standout improvements include automatic doors, entry aids and seat belts in all seats.
Particularly worth mentioning are the two barrier-free trailers, which are equipped with automatic wheelchair platforms. These innovations now allow children aged six and over to take part in factory tours, making Volkswagen an even more child-friendly destination.
This is how the factory tour works
But how exactly does a typical factory tour work? These take place on weekdays and outside of company holidays, although changes to the schedule or cancellations for important reasons cannot be ruled out. The tours are primarily aimed at those collecting vehicles. If you would like to book a place, you can do so on site at the Welcome Desk or online for just 10 euros.
The entire week tour lasts a maximum of one hour and guests should arrive at the service house parking lot 15 minutes before the start. A shuttle bus ride takes participants from there to the tour. Entry is open to children aged 10 and over and photo IDs are required - a quick reminder for anyone who doesn't want to miss out on the exciting ride.
The most popular stops include the “wedding”, the assembly of body, engine and chassis, as well as the press shop and paint shop. These viewpoints offer a unique insight into the production of a Volkswagen, and the tour has been subject to constant innovations since its introduction. This tour was originally done on foot before vehicles came into play in the 1990s, which made the whole thing a lot more appealing.
The idea for the new trailers comes from the Corona period in 2020, and official use began on October 9, 2023. The first test run took place with the football professionals from VfL Wolfsburg, which once again underlines the popularity of this tour. A visit to Wolfsburg is not only a real highlight for car enthusiasts, but also a family trip that combines fun and educational impressions.
