Wild swans continue to fight: catch-up against the grizzlies successful!
Last Friday, the Schwenninger Wild Wings played an exciting Baden-Württemberg derby against Adler Mannheim, but were defeated 2-4. The game was characterized by a strong performance from Mannheim, who impressed in front of their home crowd in the SAP Garden. Already in the fifth minute, Nicolas Mattinen used a brilliant slap shot to score the first goal of the evening. In the second period, Anthony Greco and Kris Bennett increased the lead to 3-0 before Mirko Höfflin was able to reduce the lead to 1-3 for the Wild Wings. But Mannheim held on and restored the old distance through Luke Esposito. Kyle Platzer finally scored in the third period, but the Wild Wings' comeback remained unrewarded. Despite the great pressure in the final section, the Schwenningen team were unable to equalize the deficit and had to accept their first derby defeat of the season. The Adler Mannheim secured second place in the table, while the Wild Wings are in eighth place.
But the Wild Wings quickly recovered from this defeat. On Sunday they played against the Grizzlys Wolfsburg and were able to come back with a narrow 3-2 win. Danny O'Regan scored the decisive goal with 73 seconds left. Coach Steve Walker was visibly happier after the game than after the derby defeat and particularly praised his team's performance. Goalie Joacim Eriksson was also an important support, recording several crucial saves.
Top scorers and upcoming challenges
This season, Tyson Spink is the Wild Wings' top scorer with six assists and a total of 16 points. Zach Senyshyn is at the top of the goalscoring list with ten goals, while Kyle Platzer also scored, both against Mannheim and Wolfsburg. Great attention now lies on the next encounters. On Friday the Wild Wings will host the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven, who are currently in eighth place, while the Wild Wings are in the table with 39 points.
The Pinguins also had to admit defeat on Sunday and lost clearly 0:4 against Mannheim. On Sunday, the Schwenningen team will play against the current league leaders ERC Ingolstadt, who recently recorded eleven wins in a row. The Wild Wings have a big challenge ahead of them against Ingolstadt, after all they suffered a 2-4 defeat in their last meeting, which took place on October 19th. The anticipation for the next games couldn't be greater, because it remains exciting to see whether the Wild Wings can use the opportunity to score points against strong opponents.
