Drama in Elmshorn: Two men seriously injured after an accident!

On July 20, 2025, at 6:05 p.m., a serious traffic accident occurred in Elmshorn, in the Pinneberg district, which put emergency services on alert. An Opel Astra had left the road, drove over a traffic island and finally crashed into a traffic light. In this incident, two men who were sitting in the car were seriously injured.

The driver was quickly freed from the wreckage, but his passenger remained trapped for more than half an hour. The passenger was freed via the tailgate of the vehicle, using heavy hydraulic equipment. Both men were then taken to hospital. Fortunately, her condition is serious, but not life-threatening, as Die Zeit reports.

Great effort for the rescue workers

The Elmshorn fire department was alerted at 2:49 p.m. after the accident was reported. 30 emergency services, supported by 9 vehicles, quickly arrived at the scene of the accident to rescue the men. The RKiSH rescue service was also on site with 6 emergency services, two ambulances and an emergency doctor vehicle.

In addition to rescuing both injured people, the firefighters also removed spilled fuel and secured the damaged traffic lights with a turntable ladder. A total of four police officers and the Elmshorn Technical Relief Agency (THW) were deployed to secure the operation, which illustrates the scale of the incident. Further details about the rescue measures can be found in the report from Presseportal.

What exactly happened

The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. However, it is believed that a moment of carelessness or a technical failure caused the car to veer off the road. The accident occurred at an intersection where the traffic situation will be examined in detail by the authorities.

Rescuing the men trapped after the car crash was a challenge that was overcome with a lot of skill and mobilization of available resources. The operation shows how important it is for emergency services to respond quickly in acute situations and that ongoing education and training for emergency services is of the utmost importance.
