Summer camp in Quickborn: Students ready for graduation in 2026!

In Quickborn, a small town in northern Germany, the heart beats for education - and with a special project that extends over the summer months. From July 19, 2025, 38 students, including eight from the Comenius School, will enjoy a three-week summer camp that will optimally prepare them for their upcoming graduation in 2026. This exciting offer is organized by the Hamburger Phase BE gGmbH with the active support of the Rotary Club Quickborn. After all, it's not just about fun, but about strengthening self-confidence and showing career prospects. [city magazine]

But that's not enough! The program has a clear focus: the participants should not only improve their academic skills, but also grow personally. Discussions with students and parents about the funding options began in February 2025. At this year's open day on July 31st, representatives of the Rotary Club and the Comenius School were able to get an idea of the committed project work.

The modules of the summer camp

As part of the summer camp, students are trained in four modules:

  • Modul „Auftreten“: Hier liegt der Fokus auf Rhetorik, Körperhaltung und persönlichem Auftreten.
  • Modul „Berufsorientierung“: Die Schüler:innen lernen, wie man Bewerbungsunterlagen erstellt und Bewerbungsgespräche meistert.
  • Modul „CheckX“: Dieses Modul bietet Mathematiktraining, beispielsweise in Bruchrechnen.
  • Modul „LeseFit“: Fördert die Lesekompetenz mit spannenden Textinterpretationen.

A very special highlight is the creative project that invites participants to a performance of the musical “West Side Story”. Many students already have clear career aspirations and have been able to gain some practical experience.

Sustainable accompaniment and support

But the summer camp is just the beginning of a comprehensive support program. After the camp, regular weekly meetings and workshops are planned to further help the students in the 2025/26 school year. The Rotary Club Quickborn will continue to be committed in the following years and has planned a funding amount of 32,000 euros for the year 2026/27. In addition, the Elmshorn employment agency will be involved in the project to ensure even more holistic support.

This commitment is particularly important considering that around 50,000 students nationwide do not achieve their secondary school leaving certificate. Often it is a lack of motivation or social circumstances that prevent them from doing so. With the “Fit for Graduation” project, the Rotary Club of Quickborn would like to specifically support at-risk students and accompany them on their journey. The secondary school leaving certificate is the minimum requirement for successful vocational training. [professional service]

Overall, it shows that investments in education and support are essential. The education budget in Germany includes important expenditure on education and research, involving both public and private budgets. Every investment helps ensure that students receive the best possible conditions for their future. [Destatis]

This keeps the focus on the future - and with a committed team and a clear vision, the opportunities for students on the path to successful school qualifications and careers should steadily increase.
