Discover the elegant red wines from Solveigs Pinot Noir in the Rheingau!

The “Solveigs Pinot Noir” winery has put down its roots in picturesque Geisenheim in the Rheingau, Germany. Under the management of Jens Heinemeyer, who acquired old Pinot Noir vines in Assmannshausen over 30 years ago, the winery has developed into an insider tip. While awareness in Germany is still low, the deep red wines are enjoying increasing popularity in Scandinavia. One reason why these fine wines win the hearts of wine lovers is certainly the special character that the wines from the renowned Höllenberg and Bodental-Steinberg locations bring with them. FAZ.net reports that ...

The winemaker's daughter, Solveig, gave the winery her Nordic name, further reinforcing the family connection to the fine art of winemaking. “Solveigs Pinot Noir” focuses primarily on Pinot Noir, a grape variety known for its elegance and complexity. The vines, which are between 25 and 60 years old, produce wines that impress with substance: they are full-bodied, fresh and elegant. Heinemeyer relies on using fully ripe grapes and avoids cool climates to ensure the high quality of his wines.

A look at wine prices and tradition

The wines are marketed under a number of illustrious names such as “Micke” and “Present”, and the names “Steil” and “Phyllit” refer directly to the geological conditions of the growing areas. A notable aspect is the traditional winemaking, which, in addition to slow aging in 500 liter barrels, also includes the use of natural yeasts. The wines are processed unfined and unfiltered, which contributes to their unique authenticity. The ready-to-sell drops remain in the bottle for at least a year before they leave the winery - that's patience that pays off in every sip.

As far as prices are concerned, the 2021 vintages are quite affordable and range between 22 and 60 euros. This pricing shows that Heinemeyer has a good knack for balancing quality and accessibility. A very special highlight is the 1917 Assmannshäuser Höllenberg Pinot Noir, which achieved a proud price of 12,495 euros at an auction in 2017. Such top wines are of course not for everyone, but the quality and history behind every drop are definitely worth it.

Sustainability and gastronomy

Another advantage of the wines from “Solveigs Pinot Noir” is the ecologically certified cultivation method. With low yields of just 25 hectoliters per hectare for the “Micke” and “Present” lines, sustainable cultivation is practiced that promotes the preservation of the terroir. The wines are specifically intended for the catering industry and carry the philosophy that the quality should continue to develop in the bottle.

The combination of traditional winemaking, sustainable cultivation methods and the focus on fully ripe grapes is the recipe for success of Jens Heinemeyer and his winery. So it is no wonder that the special enjoyment of “Solveigs Pinot Noir” is appreciated not only in Germany, but also far beyond its borders.
