Fire and accidents: Dramatic events overshadow Schleswig-Holstein!

On July 19, 2025, Schleswig-Holstein was affected by several incidents that kept both the fire departments and residents on their toes. A particularly serious traffic accident near Schuby, which involved several vehicles, was particularly serious.

On the night in question, there was a collision between three cars at the Weideweg/Pukholm intersection, including a VW bus. Six people were injured, three of whom were seriously injured. Tragically, one person's life is in danger. The circumstances that led to this accident are currently being investigated by an expert.

Fire brigade operations in Bad Oldesloe and Bad Malente

At the same time, the fire departments in Bad Oldesloe and Bad Malente were called upon. In Bad Oldesloe, an empty villa burned down completely on the night of July 19th. Two fire brigades were on duty for over six hours, fortunately there were no injuries. Otherwise in Bad Malente, where a fire broke out in a semi-detached house on July 19th. Two people were able to get to safety here in time before the emergency services arrived.

The causes of both fires have not yet been conclusively clarified. While the fire department in Bad Oldesloe has not ruled out arson, the background to the fire in Bad Malente remains unclear.

Weather and events

But it wasn't just the fires and accidents that made the headlines. The 136th Travemünde Week was ceremoniously opened on July 18th and will offer sailing sports and live music until July 27th. In addition, the exceptional heavy rain on the same day caused flooding in Norderstedt and Neumünster. A state of emergency was declared in Norderstedt, the fire department had a total of 200 operations, but there were no injuries.

According to the weather service, a mixed picture is expected on July 19th: between sun and clouds, temperatures range between 24 and 28 degrees - quite pleasant weather for an event like Travemünde Week.

Call for renovation and discussions

Meanwhile, the topic of renovating the local ports remains on the agenda. The Ministry of Economic Affairs estimates the renovation needs to be over one billion euros, with a list of 62 investment requests having already been submitted to Berlin. The federal government has pledged 400 million euros from the climate protection fund, but whether the money can be used for the most urgent maintenance in the ports is still unclear.

Last but not least, it is also a time for discussion. Prime Minister Daniel Günther predicts that the federal states will soon vote on school holidays and considers staggered holiday planning to be a wise step.

For Schleswig-Holstein, it remains to be seen how the next few days will develop - whether the focus will be on the renovation measures, or perhaps on the upcoming opening of the Karl May Games in Bad Segeberg, which attracted over 100,000 visitors to the play "Halbblut". One thing is certain: there is always something going on here!
