Flensburg's surprise: Weiche Flensburg 08 II climbs to third place!
In a thrilling encounter on October 26, 2025, the second team from Weiche Flensburg 08 defeated SVE Comet Kiel 3-1 and secretly, quietly moved to third place in the table. It was a very special evening for the hosts as their regular goalkeeper was on holiday and so nominal full-back Lennart Treede took over the role between the posts. The boy had more to do than he would have liked, because the guests got off to a furious start and dominated the first 20 minutes in front of around 24 spectators.
In the 14th minute the ball fidgeted in the home team's net. Alban Jashari took advantage of a cleverly executed corner kick and put the guests in the lead. But Weiche Flensburg didn't give up and showed morale. After about 25 minutes they picked up the scepter. It was Enes Kaya who equalized in the 29th minute, scoring after great work from Jonas Kabus. Shortly before halftime, it was Nico Empen who shook the stadium with his goal to make it 2-1 in the 40th minute.
Strong fighting spirit and an outstanding empen
In the second half, Flensburg needed some time to get going in order to dominate the game again. Although the people of Kiel tried to regain their initial euphoria, their strength continued to dwindle. In the 82nd minute it was Nico Empen again who made the final score 3-1 with his 17th goal of the season. A strong game from the attacker, who set a strong tone throughout the game.
The lineups provide an exciting insight into the tactical considerations of both coaches. Coach Dimitry Kehl was able to rely on the following players with his second team: Treede – Fritze, Kabus, Sarr, Hassanoglou – Barth, Attisso (68th Shahid), Kaya – Kurzbach (88th Santos), Empen, Bajrami (73rd Jordt). On the other hand, coaches Jan Schümann and Matthias Losch directed their team with Losch in goal and a line-up that left little room for mistakes.
