Huge fire in Nübel: firewood warehouse in flames!
A dramatic incident has occurred since Tuesday morning in the small community of Nübel, near Schleswig. A 300 square meter warehouse for firewood and wood chips is on fire and has posed a major challenge to the fire department and the Technical Relief Agency (THW). Around 70 emergency services are on site and are working tirelessly to bring the fire under control. As NDR reports, the extinguishing work is expected to last until the evening.
While the fire brigade worked, residents were asked to keep doors and windows closed and to turn off ventilation and air conditioning systems. This was done for safety reasons, although according to the fire department there was no danger from chemical substances as only wood was burning. However, the aerial view of the situation shows that the fire continued to flare up, even in the early afternoon.
Protective measures successfully implemented
An important detail is that thanks to the bolt position, the adjacent hall could be protected from the flames. The emergency services were well organized and were able to replace some of them at times and request additional forces from Schleswig. In order to make extinguishing more efficient, the extinguishing water was given an additive that reduced the surface tension and thus made it easier for the water to penetrate into the wood chips.
Particularly impressive was the use of a THW wheel loader, which was used to dismantle the building and distribute the remains evenly across a field. This not only helps fight fires, but also prevents hidden embers from reigniting.
Current information on the cause of the fire
A burning interest in the causes of the fire raises the question of what started the fire. However, the police have not yet provided any information in this regard. There is also no information yet on the amount of damage caused. The situation remains exciting and the emergency services show that they have a good handle on the situation.
