125 years of Holstein Kiel: Gala celebrates tradition and great passion!
A very special celebration took place on Monday evening in the Hebbelschule in Kiel: KSV Holstein celebrated its 125th anniversary with an impressive anniversary gala. More than 500 guests gathered to celebrate the history and passion of the club. The choice of the Hebbelschule as the venue is particularly significant because the Kiel Holstein Football Club was founded here in 1902. The event was not only a celebration, but also a look back at the club's eventful history, which dates back to 1900.
KSV President Steffen Schneekloth welcomed those present and emphasized the tradition and cohesion of the club in his speech. The evening started with a nostalgic look back: radio sequences from 125 years of Holstein Kiel and the anthem “No other city, no other love, no other club”, sung by Die Denkedrans, took the guests back in time. Moderator Andreas Käckell experienced the atmosphere as a kind of big class reunion, where memories and stories were in the foreground.
Insights into the club's history
A particular highlight of the event was the presentation of a replica of the championship trophy from 1912, which symbolized the club's first major success. Historian Patrick Nawe was able to prepare a wealth of stories about the tradition of the KSV, while guests of honor such as State Secretary Magdalena Finke and City President Bettina Aust honored the club with their congratulations. The vice president of the state sports association, Meike Evers-Rölver, also insisted on being present at this special occasion.
It was particularly emotional during the discussion sessions, in which former players, coaches and captain Sarah Begunk had their say. There were many stories from the past decades that helped the fans identify with the club. After a short break, descendants of the club's founders reported on the beginnings and the development that the club has undergone over the years. Tom Scheffer remembered Ernst Möller's historic penalty goal in 1912, which laid the foundation for many successes.
View of the future
The evening's events were not only a tribute to the past, but also a glimpse of the future. With the recent promotion to the Bundesliga on May 11, 2024, the club has reached new heights that are generating enthusiasm among fans and supporters. A video from NDR about the history of the club, which also allows players, coaches and long-time fans to have their say, shows the great connection and importance of the club for the region. One fan in particular, who attended 250 games in a row, reflects the special place that Holstein Kiel holds in many people's lives.
The gala ended with a countdown celebrating KSV Holstein's official birthday and looking back at the club's promotions in 2012, 2017 and 2024. Holstein Kiel is not just a football club, but a piece of home and identity for many. The history and tradition continue to be written and with every game this rich legacy is proudly carried on.
For anyone who would like to find out more about the history and most important events of the club, it is worth taking a look at the comprehensive documentation from NDR and the contributions that underline the variety and cohesion of KSV Holstein.
