Kiel University of Applied Sciences: New rooms at the sea fish market for students!

Movement comes into the buildings Kiel University of Applied Sciences: The university has decided to rent new premises at the Seefischmarkt. There are now over 2,000 square meters available here and the FH will be one of the main tenants on the site west of the Schwentine.

The Institute for Construction (IfB) has been part of the Seefischmarkt campus for several years. Since September 2023, the architecture course has also had its new location in Kiel-Wellingdorf. In order to offer students an excellent education, various seminar rooms, offices, laboratories, workshops and even architecture studios were set up in the two buildings F09 and F10.

New administrative wing and planned moves

A large part of the teaching has so far taken place mainly on the main campus. However, this will change from the winter semester 2025/26: Building F10 will then be used entirely by the FH. Additional office space, seminar rooms and studios will be set up here. The laboratories that deal with topics such as road construction, hydraulic engineering, coastal protection, geotechnics and building material technology are particularly exciting.

A new administration wing is also being built for the IfB in building F01, which will be equipped with seminar and CAD rooms. The move of employees and students will take place in two stages: The first stage will take place at the end of July 2025, when the entire administration will move to F01. With the start of the winter semester, it will also open to students.

The bachelor's degree in civil engineering and architecture

The newly founded bachelor's degree program in civil engineering at the University offers a special eye-catcher Kiel University of Applied Sciences, which has been offered since 2018. Here, graduates face eight semesters full of practical content, ranging from mathematics and physics to building material technology and sustainable construction. Graduates can acquire the title of Bachelor of Engineering here.

Students are optimally prepared with study focuses that address modern challenges such as green building, structural engineering or hydraulic engineering and coastal protection. Strong practical relevance with a mandatory practical semester and realistic project work are also part of this course offering.

Planned new buildings and competitions

But that's not all! The GMSH has held a competition for the new building of the technical college in recent years. The winning design comes from the architectural firm DFZ Architekten GmbH in collaboration with G2 Landschaft PartG mbB. The new building, which is to be built on a plot of land on Eichenbergskamp, will be around 4,500 square meters in size and will offer a central entrance area with light-flooded rooms.

The schedule calls for construction to begin in the first quarter of 2024 and the construction phase to last until spring 2028. We are also aiming for certification according to the Sustainable Building Gold rating system, which underlines the ecological and economic sustainability of the project.

Anyone who is interested in future-oriented courses and an innovative campus should follow developments at Kiel University of Applied Sciences closely. A lot is happening here, and students benefit from a wide range of training opportunities and modern learning spaces.
