Gerwyn Price conquers Baltic Sea Darts Open: Germany celebrates!

The darts scene in northern Germany can be happy: Gerwyn Price made an impressive return to the Baltic Sea Darts Open. After a two-year dry spell on the European Tour, the Welshman secured his victory at the weekend and catapulted himself into the top five of the Order of Merit. This triumph is Price's ninth overall victory on the European Tour and gives fans hope that he can now build on his old successes again. As dartsnews.de reports, Price prevailed in the final with a clear 8-3 against Gary Anderson.

The path there was by no means easy. Price started his tournament with a clear 6-1 win over William O'Connor, followed by a narrow 6-5 against Wessel Nijman. With another 6-3 win over Luke Humphries and a 7-3 semi-final win against Chris Dobey, he finally made it to the final. For his victory, Price received prize money of 50,000 pounds.

The rankings in detail

The current top 5 of the European Tour Order of Merit looks like this:

Place player Prize money (£)
1 Nathan Aspinall 76,000
2 Martin Schindler 64,500
3 Gary Anderson 50,500
3 Johnny Clayton 50,500
5 Gerwyn Price 50,600

Martin Schindler, who is considered one of the best German players, achieved second place in the rankings with solid performances. His current prize money stands at £64,500, putting him close to Nathan Aspinall, who is at the top with £76,000. Schindler reached the quarter-finals of the tournament and, with his strong performance, can have high hopes of taking part in the European Championship, which takes place at the end of this year.

The challenges of the German players

The stage for darts players is far from over. Five more events are on the schedule before final decisions are made: Antwerp, Prague, Budapest, Basel and Hildesheim are still ahead of the athletes. The pressure is growing because only the best 32 players in the Order of Merit have the chance to qualify for the European Championship, where the highest prize money awaits them. Three German players are currently qualified, while Ricardo Pietreczko dropped to 21st place after his second round defeat against Aspinall and Niko Springer remains in 23rd place. Both will do everything they can to secure a place in the top 32.

The European Tour's final events give players the opportunity to secure a place in the coveted top 32 to play in the prestigious Dortmund. As dartsnews.com and dartsrankings.com show, there are also names like Michael Smith, Joe Cullen and the legendary Raymond van Barneveld are in the hunt for the final qualification points as they turn their attention to the remaining tournaments.

The darts community can hope for exciting weeks in which the players will give everything to climb the rankings and fight for a dream place at the European Championship!
