Kiel Dragon Boat Days: A spectacular weekend for young and old!

A colorful spectacle is coming to Kiel this weekend: the 18th Kiel Dragon Boat Days will take place on the Hörn on September 12th and 13th. This lively event not only attracts the local population, but also numerous guests from Schleswig-Holstein. The start will be heralded with a spectacular school cup, in which 32 teams from different schools in Kiel and the surrounding area will compete against each other on a 250-meter track. Organizer Bernd Lensch has set himself the goal of getting young people in particular excited about this exciting sport and thus further promoting dragon boating in Kiel, as kn-online.de reports.

With a total of 66 teams, including 20 teams taking part for the first time, it will be an exciting weekend. In addition to the school cup, there is the fun cup, which is open to leisure and company teams. To ensure the safety of participants, rescue divers, boats and paramedics are on site. It is also important to all school teams that every participant is equipped with a life jacket. So far there has not been a capsized boat in 17 years - a sign of the good organization and safety of dragon boating!

Supporting program and prices

The Kiel Dragon Boat Days not only offers exciting competitions, but also a colorful supporting program. A colorful backdrop with various stands and costumed teams creates a lively atmosphere that attracts young and old. The prizes are also a reason to celebrate: the winner receives a huge trophy, adults are rewarded with a bottle of champagne, while the children take home a Capri Sun. A special treat for the four slowest teams will be 40 packs of brown bread as “lucky loser” prizes!

Dragon boating has a long tradition; its roots go back over 2,000 years to Chinese culture. Here in Kiel, this millennia-old tradition is combined with modern team building. According to teambuilding-kiel.de, dragon boating is not only a sport, but also an excellent team building experience. The participants, be they international groups or managers, learn on the Kiel waters how important cooperation, rhythm and trust are.

Invitation to the water

After an introduction on the bank it’s time to “cast off”! Participants will enjoy a unique experience where synchronized paddling not only provides speed but also an increased sense of community. The little race at the end of the event is not only fun, but also promotes communication and trust within the teams.

The 18th Kiel Dragon Boat Days is therefore not just a sporting event, but an event that strengthens the Kiel community, focuses on fun and joy and at the same time offers an opportunity to make new friends. If you don't want to miss the hustle and bustle, you should take the time to spend the last weekend on the Hörn, depending on the weather and your mood!
