Fast-paced cycling race in Kiel: 300 participants on the Kiel line!

Next Saturday, July 19th, the Kiellinie will be transformed into a turbulent racing field: the “Dankward Racing Series” will be starting. Around 300 cyclists from different age groups will give their best on the 1.5 kilometer long route. The route is designed to run over the picturesque Kiel line and to provide participants with an appealing ambience. New this year is the route, which has been adjusted compared to last year, although the parking lot at the sports harbor remains accessible. Residents have been informed of the upcoming closures and so far there has been no negative feedback. KN Online reports on the lively response and anticipation of the event.

The race day starts early, as the roads are closed from 8 a.m. This affects cars, buses and bicycles, which have to be rerouted via diversions. The organizers aim for all races to be completed by 6 p.m. at the latest so that the closures can be removed promptly. The physical well-being of the spectators is also taken care of, so that nothing stands in the way of an exciting competition.

Inclusion is very important

A special highlight of this year is the inclusion race for mentally disabled athletes, in which 16 participants will take part. Such measures are necessary and show that in sport it is not just competition that counts, but also community and participation. According to a recent study by SAZ Sport People with disabilities still have fewer opportunities to participate in sport than in other areas of life. Access to sports opportunities often remains inadequate.

Nevertheless, the Dankward Racing Series is showing progress: Compared to previous years, there is an improvement in the number of registered participants, although there are still twice as many men as women. The initiatives taken at the event could be helpful in bridging the gap and drawing attention to the needs of an inclusive society.

For beginners and professionals

Anyone interested in cycling should not forget that there are a variety of participation options. Beginners or non-members can start in the hobby class, while membership in a cycling club is recommended for the license class. Registrations for this year have already closed, but the organizers are also offering a “sprat fleet race” for last-minute riders on rental bikes. Dankward Racing Series also provides information about the different classes available to participants.

Northern Germany shows that the cycling scene is also lively. Whether professional or amateur athlete – the Kiellinie will be a place of enthusiasm and competition on Saturday. Prepare yourselves, it will be an exciting experience!
