Free entry to the seaside resort museum: autumn holiday promotion for young explorers!

During the upcoming autumn holidays, an exciting offer will be presented to young people interested in culture in Schleswig-Holstein. This applies on October 23rd and 30th, 2025 Museum Card not only as an entrance ticket, but also as a ticket for local transport. Children and young people up to the age of 18 can travel free of charge to more than 130 museums and exhibitions on these days. Among these is also the popular one Seaside resort museum in Travemünde, which is known for its interesting presentation of the history of bathing life on the Baltic Sea.

The MuseumsCard has been initiated for 19 years by a variety of organizations, including Schleswig-Holstein savings banks and the Ministry of Education and Culture. The aim of this campaign is to give young people the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of culture and education free of charge. An additional treat for participants is a competition: Anyone who scans QR codes in at least three of the participating museums has the chance to win prizes such as a 300 euro voucher from the German Youth Hostel Association. To take part in the competition, registration is required at www.meine-museumscard.de and the collected QR codes or stamped cards must be submitted by November 30, 2025.

A wide range of offerings in the seaside resort museum

The seaside resort museum, which opened its doors on March 1, 2025, has had an exciting season. The Heimatverein Travemünde e.V. runs the private, voluntary museum without public funding. On an exhibition area of 185 m², visitors can expect a wealth of information through films, audio stations and key topics on the history of the seaside resort. One of the highlights of the season is a special exhibition that honors the 160-year-old Society for the Rescue of Shipwrecked People (DGzRS).

Visitors can look forward to a raffle on opening day as well as a flea market with special museum items. Opening times are Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission prices remain family-friendly: adults pay €6, children up to 14 years of age have free access, while schoolchildren, students and people with disabilities only have to pay €3.50. Anyone who shows the MuseumsCard can also visit all exhibitions free of charge. And remember, tours are possible by prior telephone arrangement.

Commitment to culture

But the local association's commitment goes even further. Particular attention is also being paid to the reconstruction of the historic Sea Temple Pavilion, which was destroyed in 1872. Its grand opening is scheduled for the second half of June 2025. For anyone who would like to get actively involved, the museum is looking for volunteers for the visitor support service. Anyone interested can contact us on 04502-9998094 or by email at info@heimatverein-travemuende.de.

In summary, the upcoming MuseumsCard campaign is a wonderful example of cultural participation, and especially that Seaside resort museum in Travemünde is looking forward to welcoming numerous young visitors and offering them an unforgettable experience. So combine your cultural trip with a trip to the beautiful port city - there is a lot to discover here for young and old!
