Danger of slippery roads in Lübeck: Three accidents and slightly injured people!

In the Lübeck and Ostholstein region, winter weather is once again on everyone's lips. On Friday there were slippery roads there, which led to several accidents. The police registered a total of three slippery accidents with one person being slightly injured. Fortunately, traffic in Lübeck remained smooth on Saturday morning, which certainly made driving easier for drivers.

Temperatures were well above freezing on Saturday, but police are urging caution. Frost is to be expected in the coming nights, which can quickly worsen road conditions. Drivers should therefore have a good hand when driving and adapt their speed to the weather conditions.

Increased number of accidents

As early as February 13, 2025, there was an increased number of traffic accidents in the area due to slippery conditions. In Ostholstein there were a total of 15 incidents that were classified as ice accidents. The area around Ahrensbök was particularly affected, where many vehicles left the road and four people were slightly injured.

A particularly spectacular accident occurred at 7:30 a.m. on State Road 184 near Dunkelsdorf when an SUV from Lübeck slipped and ran into oncoming traffic. The vehicle collided with a Mercedes and then ended up in a ditch. All four vehicles had to be towed, which led to the state road being completely closed until 9:30 a.m. The driver of the SUV suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital. Administrative offense proceedings will follow because the vehicle was not equipped with the required winter or all-weather tires.

Special precautions in slippery conditions

Another critical incident was at 8:30 a.m. when a bus carrying school children left the road at the Schwochel exit and crashed into a fence. Despite attempts to brake, the bus slipped, causing minor injuries to two eight-year-old children. The driver was uninjured while the bus had to be towed away. This shows how important it is to take appropriate precautions during the cold season.

Statistics show that road traffic accidents in snow and ice in Germany will be high between 2011 and 2024. According to the Federal Statistical Office, it is particularly important not to lose sight of safe driving, especially in the winter months. Information about this is available online on Statista.

The police in Lübeck and Ostholstein therefore appeal to all road users not only to adhere to the speed limits, but also to drive with foresight and conscientiousness in wintry conditions. Using the roads safely is crucial in order to avoid accidents and get through the winter as unscathed as possible.
