New residential area in Travemünde: development plan now public!
There is news in picturesque Lübeck that is of particular interest to the citizens of Travemünde. The Hanseatic city has initiated an exciting development step with the development plan 32.59.00 – Howingsbrook / Rödsaal. The plans envisage the development of a new residential area with modern infrastructure, which could significantly improve the quality of life in this attractive coastal region. The site covers approximately 10 hectares and is located in an area that is largely used for agriculture.
The official documents for this project will be publicly available between July 14 and August 1, 2025. Anyone interested can find out more in the citizen service area of the Planning and Building Department at Mühlendamm 10. Opening times are Monday to Wednesday, 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Thursday to 6:00 p.m., and Friday to 12:00 p.m. For individual inquiries, the team is available at (0451) 122-6154 or by email bebauungsplanning@luebeck.de ready.
Citizen participation
Citizens are invited to actively participate in this process by providing their comments on the plans. These can be submitted by email, in writing or during a personal appointment. An important date for everyone interested is the public event to present the planning, which will take place on July 24, 2025 at 6:30 p.m. in the non-profit association, Torstrasse 1.
It is useful to be aware that comments not submitted by the deadline may not be taken into account. A second public participation in accordance with Section 3 Paragraph 2 of the BauGB is also planned, about which separate information will be provided. Anyone who would like to find out more about the plans can find all the information on the Hanseatic City of Lübeck’s website, especially under the “Current participation procedures” section.
Urban development in numbers
The city has experienced positive development in recent years. According to current statistics, as of December 31, 2024, there was a population of 223,156 living in Lübeck, which is 11,041 more than 15 years ago. Lübeck's population is growing, and not without reason: a good 44 percent of the population lives in the larger districts such as St. Jürgen, St. Lorenz Nord or St. Gertrud. What is particularly interesting is that Travemünde has the highest proportion of seniors over 65, which makes the planned infrastructural developments all the more important.
Given the tight housing market, over 6,680 people moved within Lübeck in 2024, with most moves taking place within St. Lorenz North. This mobility shows the potential that the new residential areas could offer - especially for families who are looking for a home that offers both quality of life and proximity to nature.
The Hanseatic city of Lübeck is preparing for an exciting chapter with the development plan 32.59.00, which not only improves the living situation in Travemünde, but also takes the current needs of the population into account. Citizens are called upon to contribute their opinions and actively participate in shaping their surroundings.
