Potsdam surprises with a strong squad: Lübeck's coach sees danger!

The handball season has really picked up speed in the DAIKIN Handball Bundesliga and the 2nd Handball Bundesliga. The team from Potsdam is currently impressing with promising performances on the field. The coach of VfL Lübeck-Schwartau, David Röhrig, is following the development of Brandenburg with interest. He notes that Potsdam not only bounced back this season with a win over HBW Balingen-Weilstetten (31:27), but also struggled with tough defeats against Dessau (25:24) and Dresden (32:31). While they had a strong phase, they surprisingly lost to Elbflorenz. Röhrig comments: “The victory against Balingen is a clear sign of Potsdam’s ambitions.”

It will be particularly exciting for the Brandenburgers because the team has undergone a lot of restructuring this season. Ten departures were replaced by seven new players, which represents a clear personnel change. Of the new additions, Röhrig particularly highlights the commitments of Mengon and Mahr, who should not be underestimated in the attack. The Potsdamers also often rely on a four-player backcourt system, which makes them a difficult unit to play against.

Positive outlook for the season

Röhrig is optimistic and bases his assessment on the solid performance shown against Balingen as well as in the other games. The fans can stay excited about upcoming sports encounters, because there are always surprises and drama in the handball Bundesliga. The league, which has been the top division in German men's handball since 1966, is played in the league system. This structure (back and forth games between all club representatives) ensures exciting duels every year.

Another aspect that will please Brandenburg fans is the cooperation between the Brandenburg Handball Association (HVB) and the sports streaming service Dyn. This gives HVB members the opportunity to take out an annual Dyn subscription at a preferential price. This subscription not only includes games in the association area, but also games in the HBL, 2nd HBL and European competitions. This means that parts of the proceeds flow into important youth projects in handball.

A look beyond the borders

The handball Bundesliga has developed strongly in recent years. Over time, many clubs have been formed through promotions and relegations in the various leagues, and the most successful club, THW Kiel, has won the most titles. It will be interesting to see how the structure and clubs develop over the course of this and the next seasons, especially with the current sponsorship partnership with Daikin, which has been in place since the 2024/25 season.

The spectators can look forward to an exciting season in which there will also be a lot of action in the 2nd Handball Bundesliga. The competitive spirit of both leagues and the reforms of recent years help make every game an experience. The teams' strengths and weaknesses are often just a blink of an eye apart, and that's what makes the games so special. Attend the games on site or follow them via stream so you don't miss a game!
