VfB Lübeck and Nuuk: Digital revolution for football fans started!

VfB Lübeck is moving into the digital future with a breath of fresh air and recently announced a partnership with the Hamburg digital agency Nuuk GmbH. The aim of this collaboration is to optimize digital communication and the stadium experience for the club's loyal fans. As VfB Lübeck reports, Nuuk has already implemented the relaunch of the official VfB app. This free app is available in common app stores and, in addition to live tickers and push notifications, also offers current news and game plans.

“The new app is an important step towards improving the user experience,” says Nils Kassube, Managing Director of Nuuk GmbH. User-friendliness is the top priority here. The app was programmed natively in SwiftUI for iOS and Kotlin for Android and combines the club's tradition with a modern, digital look. The implementation takes place in parallel with the provision of dynamic content on the screens in the VIP areas of the stadium, which are also managed by Nuuk.

Innovative approaches to fan loyalty

“We want the fans, partners and the club to benefit from modern digital solutions,” emphasizes Alexander Köhn, also managing director of Nuuk GmbH. VfB Lübeck sees itself as a club with deep roots and a passionate fan base that is not only connected to football, but also to the community and tradition in Lübeck. With these values in mind, the app is used to deliver real-time content that is meaningful to fans.

The app is also used as a control tool for the club to analyze fan interactions and make data-based decisions in communication. With flexible and efficient use of all relevant screens, fan loyalty is significantly improved.

Technologies in sport: A look into the future

These developments come against the backdrop of changing sports consumption, where technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) are playing an increasingly important role. A study by IBM shows that international sports fans have high expectations of digital sports experiences. Younger fans (18-29 years old) in particular value personalized content and prefer to use multiple devices to consume sports.

In Germany, 43% of fans in this age group believe that AI has a positive impact on sport. The focus here is on real-time updates and a seamless digital experience, promoted by modern platforms such as the new VfB app. At the same time, younger fans are looking for innovation – from highlights to social media to mobile applications.

This is where the partnership between VfB Lübeck and Nuuk comes in, not only to strengthen the club's digital presence, but also to sustainably improve the entire stadium experience for fans. The potential is great, and we can be excited to see what other digital offerings will come our way in the near future.
