Tchibo rain jacket in the test: PFC residues and wet pockets exposed!

When it starts to rain again in northern Germany, we are looking for the right rain jacket. A recent market check put several models to the test and showed exciting results. The ARD Marktcheck looked at various rain jackets and also tested the popular cycling rain jacket from Tchibo in detail. The jacket is particularly suitable for cyclists and impresses with features such as reflectors and an airy cut.
Moin.deHowever, reports that there are some weaknesses: the side pockets of the Tchibo jacket get wet quickly, while only the back pocket stays dry. The price of 70 euros might be attractive for many cyclists, but the waterproof performance leaves a lot to be desired. The test also found that PFC residues were present in the jacket, even though it was declared “PFC-free”.

But what other alternatives are there? A discount rain parka that is available for just 20 euros offers an attractive everyday design, but is not really convincing when it rains because the water penetrates through the seams. The models from Decathlon and Jack Wolfskin are also not without flaws; They perform better in light rain but fail in heavy rain. The most expensive model in the test, the jacket from The North Face for 130 euros, performed best and stayed dry even in simulated cloudbursts.

Test results and performance

Anyone who thinks that price increases automatically mean better quality is wrongIMTESTdisabused. The test winner, the Morobbia 3L jacket from Jack Wolfskin, scores with high waterproofness and a weight of only 430 grams. With the help of functional elements such as a helmet-compatible hood, it also offers freedom of movement and ventilation openings - although the zipper is not quite as smooth as other jackets. The test results show an excellent overall rating of 1.1.
Other models such as the RevolutionRace Cyclone Res. Jacket 2.0 and the Schöffel 2.5L Jacket Bohusleden M are also recommended, but here too there are various strengths and weaknesses that can be crucial depending on use.

In summary, choosing the right rain jacket is not just a question of price, but also depends on individual needs. Whether you choose the Tchibo jacket, which offers practical features for cyclists in everyday use, or the more powerful models is up to you. But one thing is certain: If you cycle through the streets in the rain, you need one thing above all – a jacket that does what it promises.
