Yared Dibaba discovers Ditzum: Low German stories at the harbor!

In the world of North German entertainment, Yared Dibaba is a very special face. The presenter, actor and entertainer, known for his appearances on NDR, captivates viewers with his NDR series “Yared comes around”. Here he is committed to introducing people and places in northern Germany in a charming and humorous way. His next “expedition” is on the program on July 25, 2025 at 9:15 p.m., which focuses on the picturesque coastal village of Pommerby in the Schleswig-Flensburg district. How NDR reports, Yared will talk about his journey of discovery through the north on the Red Sofa.

But what makes his travels so special? Yared Dibaba emphasizes the importance of Low German and is socially involved in the communities he visits. In addition to Pommerby, he also visits the small towns of Ditzum, Klixbüll with around 1,000 inhabitants and Dechow on the former inner-German border. These destinations not only offer beautiful landscapes, but also interesting people and stories.

Active encounters in Ditzum

In Ditzum, Yared also has to adapt to the peculiarities of the locals. So he practices “holding his tongue”, which means that you should be more reserved in conversations, as the old men from Ditzum are not exactly talkative. But harbor master and sluice keeper Hinrich Woortmann is more talkative and tells Yared a nostalgic anecdote from his youth. Such stories introduce viewers to the culture and traditions the region is known for.

Production manager Miriam Rumohr and editorial director Stephanie Barrenberg, together with presenter Hinnerk Baumgarten, create a captivating mix of entertainment and education that promotes viewers' interest in both northern Germany and the Low German language. Yared Dibaba clearly has a good knack for presenting the stories of the people and their homeland in an exciting way.

With every episode of “Yared Comes Around” the connection between the viewer and northern German culture is strengthened. It will be exciting to see the further journeys of discovery and stories that this talented entertainer has in store for us.
