60 years of friendship: Hamburg couple celebrates Thanksgiving in Brenden!
On the last weekend in October, the traditional harvest festival took place in Brenden, which not only celebrated the bountiful harvest, but also served as a special tribute to Brigitte and Klaus Adam from Hamburg. This year the couple can already look back on 60 years of regular stays in the picturesque Black Forest village. Before they discovered Brenden, they were dissatisfied with their vacation in the Bavarian Forest and went to the Isele family's Hirschen inn for three weeks in July 1980.
Since then, Brenden has become a second home. “We made a lot of friends here and it’s like a piece of family,” says Brigitte Adam. What is particularly noteworthy is that Brigitte has been keeping a diary since 1980, which is now in its 22nd volume. The Adamses are known for welcoming Brenden residents to their hometown of Hamburg and introducing them to the port city. Also taking part in performancesOriginal Brendener Bergbuebenis one of their many activities in Brenden.
A home for nature lovers
Brenden itself is known for its breathtaking nature and proximity to the Alps. The Rappenfelsensteig gourmet trail beckons with wonderful views, while the flora and fauna of the Schwarzhalden Bannwald captivate nature lovers. The place was mentioned in documents as early as 1295 and is a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. In winter, the slopes and cross-country trails around Brenden delight skiers and toboggan fans.
The autumn and slaughter festival in Brenden, known for hearty food and convivial music, attracts guests from near and far and is a centerpiece of the annual events calendar. Brigitte and Klaus Adam have made it a habit to take part in these festivities and are always happy to visit their beloved Brenden.
A special tradition
Another highlight in the couple's history is their recent return to Hamburg to celebrate Brigitte Adams' 80th birthday. They are back in Brenden just in time for the autumn festival, where they can enjoy the warm community and the atmosphere. Over the years they have traveled by train, which shows how strong their connection to this region is.
In recent years, the Gasthof Hirschen has been the only remaining restaurant in the village, which helped shape tourism in Brenden in the 1980s. At a time when the Black Forest was booming, weekly guest evenings took place in the village hall, which were organized with great enthusiasm by the locals.
With license plate HH-WT, the Adams make it unmistakably clear in traffic where their heart beats - in Brenden. Their ongoing commitment and decades-long loyalty to this place are an example of the special relationship between people and their surroundings.
