Bremen is celebrating a barrier-free festival of cultures with 200,000 visitors!
The 37th Breminale in Bremen had a blast this year! Around 200,000 visitors flocked to the banks of the Weser over five days and enjoyed a colorful program without an entrance fee. Over 120 musicians provided musical highlights, while numerous art and yoga courses, a Ferris wheel and second-hand sales expanded the festival concept. “The weather was great and the number of visitors was pleasing,” says Jonte von Döllen, the artistic director of the Breminale. Last year the event only attracted around 160,000 people, which was partly attributed to bad weather and the European Football Championship, but this year the event was at its best. Restaurateurs reported a significant increase in sales compared to the previous year, and in the end around 500 barrels of beer found their way to the thirsty throats of festival visitors. n-tv reports that ....
This year, special attention was paid to accessibility and inclusion. The organizers want to use various measures to ensure that as many people as possible can take part in the Breminale. Jonas Gudegast, sustainability officer at Breminale, emphasizes that they have implemented a package of measures for the first time. This includes the “Buddie Network”, a free escort service for people with disabilities, in cooperation with the association “Inclusion must be loud”. A wheelchair platform has been set up in front of the “Schleuse” stage, and a WiFi hearing support system allows users to receive the audio signal directly to their hearing aids. Diverse offers for everyone
This year the Breminale is not only culturally strong, but also inclusive. The event location, the meadows on Osterdeich and the art gallery in the park, has been made accessible to many people. The program ranged from concerts to readings and children's theater, all free and open to everyone. The Buddie network requires prior registration and is supported by volunteers who accompany people with a “B” on their severely disabled ID. There are alternative solutions for people without a disability certificate who need support due to neurodiversity. City of Culture Bremen explains that….
To make the visit as pleasant as possible for everyone, barrier-free toilets are also available, and information about how to get there, gradients and directions can be found on the Breminale website. If you have specific questions, you can contact Jonas Gudegast at any time or find out more at the info point and the awareness teams on site. The Breminale is committed to making culture accessible to everyone and breaking down barriers - a goal that will remain important in the future!
